Bermuda's junior squash programme has another reason to celebrate after Ben Sherratt captured the boys' under-13 championship at the 2026 PVD Squash Junior Gold tournament in Providence, Rhode Island.
The Somersfield Academy student produced an impressive run through the draw, culminating in a 3–1 victory over top seed Muhammed Arshad Burki in the final. Sherratt took the match 11–8, 12–10, 4–11, 11–9, recovering after his opponent claimed the third game to close out the title in the fourth.
The result marks a significant achievement for the young islander, who overcame the tournament's top-ranked player on foreign soil. His composure in the tight second game, which he edged 12–10, proved pivotal in building an early advantage in the championship match.
Junior Gold events on the US squash circuit attract strong fields from across North America, making Sherratt's triumph a notable statement for Bermudian squash. The victory adds to a growing list of international successes for the island's young players, who continue to test themselves against elite competition overseas. Local squash officials will hope the performance inspires further development within the island's junior ranks as Bermuda's presence on the regional circuit continues to strengthen.
