Bermudian professional golfer Daniel Augustus endured a difficult opening day at the Clutch Pro Tour's Tier 2 Championship in Surrey, England, signing for an 11-over-par 83 at Clandon Regis Golf Club on Tuesday.

The score left Augustus in a share of 70th position heading into the second and final round of the 36-hole competition, which is being played over the par-72 layout on October 7 and 8. The Bermudian will need a significantly improved performance in the closing round to climb the leaderboard and contend for a stronger finish.

The Surrey event marks the latest stop in a busy stretch of competition for Augustus on the Clutch Pro Tour, a British-based developmental circuit that provides professionals with valuable tournament experience and Official World Golf Ranking points at its higher tiers. The Tier 2 Championship follows his recent appearance at another tour event, as he continues to build his schedule overseas.

Augustus has been one of Bermuda's most active touring professionals in recent years, regularly travelling to the United Kingdom and beyond to compete. His continued presence on international circuits keeps the island represented in the professional ranks, and local golf followers will be watching to see whether he can produce a low round on Wednesday to close out the tournament on a positive note.
