At the dawn of Saturday morning, the streets of Smith’s Parish came alive with the rhythm of feet pounding the tarmac. The Swans Club Charity 5K, held along South Road and culminating at John Smith’s Bay, saw local talent take the lead in a spirited sprint for community causes.

Chayce Smith, a hometown favourite, crossed the finish line in a blistering 17 minutes and 52.83 seconds, a time that set a new benchmark for the event’s men’s category. Beside him, Stepanka Sprincova claimed the women’s title, recording a solid 19 minutes and 35.30 seconds. Both runners displayed a blend of pace and perseverance, earning praise from organisers and spectators alike.

The race, which covered the full 3.1‑mile distance, was a showcase of Bermuda’s athletic community. Over 200 participants, including families and retirees, joined the route that wound past the historic seaside cottages of Smith’s Bay, offering a picturesque backdrop for the charity event.

All proceeds go directly to Swans Club’s initiatives, supporting youth sports programmes and local infrastructure projects. Organisers highlighted the importance of community engagement and noted that the event raised over $10,000 in the past year, a figure that will contribute to future community development.

Smith and Sprincova’s performances underscore the growing enthusiasm for running on the island, as more Bermudians take to the track in pursuit of health, camaraderie and a good cause.
