Bermuda High School for Girls has claimed the Under-12 girls six-a-side football title, capping off a strong showing in the island's youth school football programme.

The Pembroke school emerged victorious in the small-sided competition, which features fast-paced matches designed to sharpen young players' skills and encourage greater participation in the sport among primary and middle school-aged girls. Six-a-side formats have become increasingly popular in Bermuda's schools, offering more touches on the ball and continuous action compared to traditional eleven-a-side fixtures.

The triumph adds to BHS's proud tradition in girls' school sport on the island, where the institution has regularly fielded competitive teams across football, netball and athletics. Coaches and teachers at the school praised the squad's teamwork and commitment throughout the tournament, noting that many of the players are relatively new to organised football.

School sports officials say the growth of girls' football at the youth level bodes well for the future of the women's game in Bermuda, feeding talent into club programmes and, eventually, the national setup. The Bermuda Football Association has made youth development a priority in recent years, with inter-school competitions serving as a key pathway for emerging players.

Parents and supporters turned out to cheer on the young athletes, with the victory sparking celebrations among the BHS school community as the team brought home the title.
