Bermudian tennis player Zachary McGuire enjoyed a standout weekend at the Army Invitational in West Point, New York, collecting victories in both singles and doubles competition for Sacred Heart University.
The freshman, a former Saltus Grammar School student, won both of his singles matches during the October 3-4 tournament. In one of those contests, McGuire showed his resilience by rallying from a set down to defeat Fairleigh Dickinson University's Asaf, underlining his ability to compete under pressure against strong collegiate opposition.
McGuire also teamed up effectively in doubles play, adding two more wins to his tally over the course of the event. His four victories made him one of Sacred Heart's top performers at the invitational, which drew programmes from across the region.
The results mark an encouraging start to McGuire's collegiate career in the United States, where he has quickly established himself as a contributor in both singles and doubles line-ups. The young Bermudian's progress will be followed closely back home, as he continues a pathway that has seen several island players test themselves in the American university system in recent years.
