More than 230 employees of the Bermuda Monetary Authority stepped away from their desks last week to support charities and community organisations across the island, as the financial regulator staged its fifth annual Community Day.
The day of service, held on Thursday, 1 October, saw staff from the Authority fan out to work with eight local non-profits, contributing their time and labour to a range of community projects. The initiative has become a fixture on the BMA calendar, giving employees a paid opportunity to give back to the island they serve in their regulatory roles.
A spokesperson for the Authority said the event reflects the organisation's commitment to Bermuda beyond its core mandate of overseeing the island's financial services sector. Staff participation has grown steadily since the programme was launched five years ago, with this year's turnout among the strongest to date.
The BMA, headquartered in Hamilton, is Bermuda's integrated financial services regulator, supervising banks, insurers, investment firms and other licensed entities. Community leaders welcomed the support, noting that volunteer manpower remains one of the most valuable contributions corporate Bermuda can offer to the charitable sector, particularly as many organisations face rising demand for their services.
