Bermuda's Government is seeking public input on a proposed competition framework that could reshape how business is conducted on the island, Minister of Home Affairs Alexa Lightbourne has announced.

Speaking in the House of Assembly, the Minister outlined several measures under consideration, including a ban on anti-competitive agreements between businesses and rules targeting the abuse of a dominant market position. The framework would also require certain mergers and acquisitions in sectors deemed essential to receive regulatory approval before proceeding.

The consultation marks a significant step toward establishing formal competition law in Bermuda, a move that supporters say could benefit consumers by encouraging fairer pricing and greater choice in local markets. Small business owners have long raised concerns about limited competition in some sectors of the island's economy.

Details on how the public can participate in the consultation process are expected to be made available through Government channels. Residents and business stakeholders are being encouraged to review the proposals and submit their views before the consultation period closes.
