Young footballers in Bermuda had an extra reason to impress over the weekend, as a scout from English Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers watched the action at the Athene Youth Kickstart Cup.

Sam Bennett, who also founded the player development organisation Potential Pro, was among the spectators at the North Field at the National Sports Centre in Devonshire, where the youth tournament ran from Friday through Sunday. The competition brought together players in the under-7, under-9 and under-11 age groups from across the island.

Organisers said they were pleased to host Bennett at the event, noting that his presence offered young Bermudian players rare exposure to professional-level scouting. Tournaments of this kind have increasingly drawn attention from overseas clubs and academies looking to identify emerging talent in the Caribbean and Atlantic region.

The Kickstart Cup forms part of ongoing efforts to develop youth football in Bermuda, giving children competitive match experience early in their playing careers. Coaches and parents in attendance said the visit from a Premier League scout added excitement to the weekend and underscored the growing opportunities available to the island's young athletes.
