One of Bermuda's oldest places of worship reached a remarkable milestone this weekend, as St. Mary's Anglican Church in Warwick celebrated its 400th anniversary with a series of special services and commemorative events.
The festivities came to a close on Sunday afternoon, October 4, with a Rededication Service at the historic church. The service was led by The Reverend Carl Williams, Priest-in-Charge of St. Mary's, and was made available to a wider audience through a live stream, allowing those unable to attend in person to share in the occasion.
The anniversary programme brought together parishioners, clergy and members of the wider community to honour four centuries of worship and ministry at the Warwick parish church. Over the years, St. Mary's has stood as a spiritual and historical landmark in the island's central parish, witnessing generations of Bermudian life.
Church officials said the rededication offered an opportunity not only to reflect on the congregation's long heritage, but also to look ahead to its continuing role in serving the community. The milestone places St. Mary's among a small number of institutions on the island whose roots stretch back to Bermuda's earliest days of settlement.
Residents and well-wishers were invited to take part in the anniversary celebrations, with the live broadcast ensuring that Bermudians overseas could also join in marking the historic occasion.
