Former Hamilton councillor and community advocate Jason Hayward has called for a comprehensive social development strategy to address the island’s growing disparities. Hayward, who has spent more than two decades working on youth programmes and community cohesion projects, argues that Bermuda’s existing initiatives are fragmented and lack a long‑term vision.

In a statement released this week, Hayward highlighted key challenges such as youth unemployment, rising mental‑health concerns, and the widening income gap between residents and expatriates. He stressed that a coordinated plan would help align government services, private‑sector resources and civil‑society initiatives to deliver measurable outcomes for all Bermudians.

Government officials have acknowledged the need for a more structured approach. The Ministry of Social Development has indicated it will convene a task force to review current policies and draft a strategic framework within the next 12 months. Local businesses, civic groups and community leaders have expressed support for the initiative, noting that a unified strategy could stimulate local investment and improve the island’s social resilience.

The plan, if adopted, would aim to strengthen support networks for vulnerable populations, enhance educational pathways, and promote inclusive economic growth, thereby ensuring that Bermuda’s social fabric remains robust as the island navigates future challenges.
