The island’s top amateur football competition will begin a fresh chapter next week under a new name and a new home ground. The long‑running Corona League is now officially the Carlsberg League, a change announced by league president David Furtado at a press event in Hamilton.
The rebranded league will kick off on Friday, 23 October, with all matches scheduled to take place at the Devonshire Recreation Club instead of the traditional Goose Gosling Field. Furtado highlighted the club’s modern facilities and central location as a key reason for the move, saying it will "enhance the spectator experience and provide better amenities for clubs and players alike."
The opening fixture will see last season’s champions Inter BDA host the Corona League Cup winners YGSC in a Charity Cup match that will raise funds for local community projects. The event will be followed by the first round of the Carlsberg League, featuring 14 teams from across the island.
The partnership with Carlsberg, a long‑time supporter of Bermuda football, will see a new sponsorship package that includes equipment upgrades, youth development grants and a community outreach programme. Clubs and supporters are looking forward to a season of high‑level play and renewed enthusiasm for the sport.
All match schedules, team rosters and ticket information will be available on the league’s official website and the Devonshire Recreation Club’s bulletin board starting Thursday. Fans are encouraged to attend early to secure seats and support local teams as the island’s football calendar restarts under its new banner.
