Bermuda‑based global insurer Chubb announced a sharp rise in its 2023 earnings, largely driven by a record‑setting investment income of $1.6 billion. The figure eclipses the $1.2 billion earned in the previous year and reflects the company’s strong portfolio of equities, fixed‑income securities and alternative assets.

The boost in investment returns has lifted Chubb’s net profit to $4.1 billion, a 12 % increase over 2022. Analysts note that the surge is partly a result of Bermuda’s favourable tax regime and the growing appetite for insurance‑linked securities in the region. Local investors, including the Bermuda Pension Fund and several institutional partners, have benefited from the higher dividend payouts that the insurer is expected to distribute this year.

The Bermuda Monetary Authority highlighted the importance of Chubb’s performance for the island’s financial sector. "A robust earnings profile from a key Bermuda‑listed company reinforces confidence in our capital markets and supports the continued attraction of international capital," the authority said. Chubb’s CEO, in a brief statement, expressed optimism about maintaining a disciplined investment strategy while exploring new growth opportunities in the Caribbean and Latin‑American markets.

With Chubb’s earnings set to remain a pillar of the local economy, stakeholders anticipate further strengthening of Bermuda’s reputation as a premier domicile for reinsurance and specialty insurance businesses.
