The Bermuda Police Service has issued a public warning after a wave of fraudulent messages claiming a ‘Rubb’s fuel giveaway’ appeared on social media and text messages. The scam, which offers free fuel to unsuspecting motorists, is not affiliated with the legitimate Rubb’s fuel stations operating on the island.

According to the Police Service, the fake promotion requests recipients to share contact details and then claims they will receive a voucher for free fuel. The messages often include a link to a website that looks similar to the official Rubb’s web page, but the URL has a subtle misspelling.

Residents are urged to verify any fuel‑related offers by checking the official Rubb’s website or contacting the company directly at the number listed on the station’s signage. The Police Service has advised motorists to report any suspicious messages to 999 or to the Police Service’s email address. An investigation is underway to identify the source of the scam.

The incident follows a recent surge in online fraud targeting Bermuda’s motorists. Local businesses and community groups are working with law enforcement to raise awareness and protect consumers from financial loss.

For more information, residents can visit the Police Service’s website or call the official hotline.
