Bermudian footballer Danni Watson continued to make her mark in US collegiate soccer on Wednesday night, providing an assist as West Virginia State University fell 2–1 to Point Park University in Mountain East Conference action in Pittsburgh.
Watson started the match at F.N.B. Stadium and played 67 minutes, setting up teammate Maria Alejandra Hernandez Diaz for the opening goal in the 34th minute. The assist briefly gave West Virginia State the advantage before Point Park rallied to claim the victory on home turf.
The result was a setback for the Yellow Jackets, but Watson's contribution highlighted the growing influence of Bermudian players in American university football. The midfielder has been a regular presence in the West Virginia State squad this season, competing in one of the more competitive NCAA Division II conferences on the east coast.
Watson's performances abroad continue to be followed closely by football supporters back home, where she is regarded as one of Bermuda's promising talents in the women's game. West Virginia State will look to bounce back in their next conference fixture as the season progresses.
