Hamilton, Bermuda – From Thursday night to Sunday, the island will host the first Bermuda Black Film Weekend: Founders Edition, a four‑day celebration of Black cinema featuring international industry figures and local artists. The event, organised by the Bermuda Film Society in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism, will take place in historic venues across the capital, including the Hamilton City Hall and the Royal Naval Dockyard.
Five internationally acclaimed actors and filmmakers will join Bermudian directors, producers and screenwriters for screenings, round‑table discussions and hands‑on workshops. Participants will explore themes ranging from diaspora identity to representation in mainstream media, with a focus on nurturing local talent and fostering cross‑cultural dialogue.
"Bermuda is proud to open its doors to the global film community while spotlighting our own creative voices," said the event’s spokesperson, who also noted that the weekend would include a showcase of short films produced by Bermudian students.
The festival aims to strengthen ties with the Caribbean film scene and to position Bermuda as a cultural hub for Black storytelling. Ticket sales are already on track, with local and international audiences eager to experience the blend of world‑class cinema and Bermuda’s vibrant artistic scene.
The event concludes on Sunday evening with a gala reception, offering a final opportunity for networking and celebration of the shared narratives that shape the Black experience worldwide.
