The United Kingdom’s Minister for the Overseas Territories, Uma Kumaran, is scheduled to arrive in Hamilton on Monday, 18 October and depart on Tuesday, 19 October. The short‑term visit will see her engage in a series of official duties aimed at strengthening ties between the UK and Bermuda.

A key event on the agenda is a meeting with Premier David Burt, during which the two leaders will discuss the island’s economic outlook, tourism strategy and the impact of the latest global trade developments on local businesses. The minister will also sign the Hamilton II Declaration – a reaffirmation of the mutual commitment to shared values such as democracy, human rights and the rule of law.

In addition to the formal engagements, Kumaran will be briefed on security and defence matters, a subject of growing importance amid heightened regional maritime activity. She is slated to join a roundtable on domestic violence featuring women’s organisations, a session that underscores the government’s priority on safeguarding vulnerable populations.

Bermuda’s officials say the visit will provide a platform for discussing future collaboration on climate resilience, financial services regulation and the expansion of tourism infrastructure. The Minister’s presence is expected to reinforce the island’s strategic partnership with the UK and highlight its role within the wider Commonwealth.

"We look forward to productive discussions that will benefit both our communities," said Premier Burt in a pre‑visit statement.
