Senator Kim Wilkerson, Attorney‑General and Minister of Justice, travelled to the Cayman Islands this week to represent Bermuda at the 18th Council of Ministers Meeting of the Caribbean Financial Action Task Force (CFATF). The gathering, held in the islands’ capital, brought together finance ministers and regulatory heads from across the Caribbean to review the region’s progress in combating money laundering and terrorist financing.

In a statement issued by the Government, the Prime Minister noted that Wilkerson’s participation was a "significant step in reinforcing Bermuda’s commitment to global financial integrity". The CFATF meeting focused on the implementation of the latest anti‑money‑laundering directives and the development of best‑practice guidelines for jurisdictions with substantial financial services sectors. Bermuda, which has long been a hub for offshore banking, insurance and investment funds, stands to benefit from the collective effort to strengthen regulatory frameworks.

During the session, Wilkerson highlighted Bermuda’s own recent regulatory updates, including the introduction of a robust compliance review process for high‑risk financial institutions. She also underscored the importance of maintaining open channels of communication with international partners, a priority that aligns with the island’s goal of preserving its reputation as a well‑regulated, transparent financial center.

The attendance of Bermuda’s senior legal officer underscores the territory’s proactive stance on financial crime prevention and its willingness to engage in regional cooperation to safeguard its economic interests.
