The United States Coast Guard is still combing the waters off Nantucket after a small aircraft vanished on Thursday evening. While the wreckage of a single fuselage section was recovered, all six occupants remain unaccounted for and the search has been broadened to include a wider area.
The incident has prompted Bermuda’s Coast Guard to review its own search‑and‑rescue protocols. Although the aircraft was lost far from Bermudian territorial waters, the island’s small‑boat and helicopter teams are routinely trained to assist in Atlantic emergencies, and the Bermuda Coast Guard maintains a liaison agreement with the U.S. Coast Guard.
"We will be ready to support any coordination efforts that may arise," said the head of Bermuda’s rescue services. "Our crews are trained to respond swiftly to both maritime and aviation incidents in the region, and we remain committed to the safety of all seafarers and aviators.
As the search continues, authorities in both Bermuda and the United States remain hopeful that the missing passengers will be located. The collaboration highlights the shared responsibility of island nations in safeguarding the busy waters of the North Atlantic.
