Residents who use the National Sports Centre in Devonshire will need to adjust their routines next month, as the facility's North Field and its popular 600-metre walking track are set to close for upgrade works.

The closure will run from Monday, 5 October 2026 through Tuesday, 27 October 2026, while the flood lighting system serving the north field is replaced. The work is expected to improve visibility and safety for evening sporting events and training sessions once completed.

The walking track is a well-used amenity for Bermuda's fitness community, with walkers and joggers from across the island taking advantage of the lit circuit during early morning and evening hours. Regular users are being encouraged to seek alternative routes during the three-week shutdown, including the railway trail and other public parks.

Government officials have indicated the investment forms part of ongoing efforts to modernise the island's premier sporting venue, which hosts football, athletics and a range of community events throughout the year. The main stadium and other facilities at the centre are expected to remain open during the works, though visitors are advised to check for any scheduling changes affecting their programmes.
