Royal Caribbean International’s five‑night cruise, Vision of the Seas, has cancelled its planned stop at Bermuda’s Royal Naval Dockyard, opting for an overnight layover in Canada instead. The vessel was scheduled to depart Baltimore, Maryland, on 17 October 2026 and was to call at the dockyard on 19–20 October, a visit that would have added an estimated $2 million in tourism spend to the island.

The decision, confirmed by Cruise Hive, came after the cruise line notified passengers of the change at the last minute, leaving local tour operators and hospitality businesses scrambling to adjust itineraries. Bermuda’s Department of Tourism said the loss of the visit would impact the island’s economic calendar, noting that the dockyard is a key attraction for cruise passengers and that the annual influx of visitors during the fall season is crucial for the hospitality sector.

"We are disappointed to see our historic port miss out on this opportunity," said Tourism Director Jane Roberts. "While the company has confirmed a Canada itinerary, we remain hopeful that future itineraries may include Bermuda once again.", Roberts added.

Local businesses have already begun to pivot, offering alternative shore‑excursion packages to attract the displaced cruise guests, and the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce is urging the cruise line to consider rescheduling the visit in a future voyage.

The change underscores the volatility of cruise itineraries and the importance of maintaining strong relationships with cruise operators to safeguard the island’s tourism economy.
