A traffic safety consultant was called before the Bermuda Police Service’s investigation team last week to discuss the circumstances surrounding a pedestrian collision that occurred on Main Street in Hamilton on March 15. The incident involved a 32‑year‑old woman who was struck by a vehicle traveling northbound on the one‑way street.

The consultant, who has been engaged by the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club for several years to advise on road safety measures, was asked to provide insight into potential contributing factors such as road design, visibility, and driver compliance with speed limits. He explained that a recent survey of mid‑town intersections indicated that the timing of pedestrian signals may not be adequately synchronized with vehicle traffic, especially during peak morning hours.

Police officials said they had reviewed the consultant’s recommendations as part of a broader review of pedestrian safety across the island. The inquiry is still ongoing, with the Police Service scheduled to release a formal report in the coming weeks.

The incident has prompted the Bermuda Government to consider a review of pedestrian crossing infrastructure, including improved signage and potential modifications to street lighting, to reduce similar accidents in the future.
