A Delta Air Lines aircraft crossing the Atlantic from Senegal to New York made an unscheduled stop at L.F. Wade International Airport on Thursday afternoon, touching down shortly after midday before resuming its journey less than two hours later.

Flight tracking data shows the Boeing 767-300 arrived on the island at around 12.21pm on October 2. The wide-body jet remained on the ground in Bermuda for roughly an hour and a half before taking off again at approximately 1.56pm to complete its trip to John F. Kennedy International Airport.

Diversions to Bermuda are not uncommon for transatlantic services, given the island's strategic position along major flight corridors between Africa, Europe and the eastern seaboard of the United States. Aircraft requiring an intermediate landing point for operational, technical or passenger-related reasons frequently make use of the island's airport facilities.

Details surrounding the reason for Thursday's diversion were not immediately available, and the airline had not issued a public statement on the matter at the time of publication. The flight was able to continue to its final destination the same afternoon, suggesting any issue was resolved promptly while the aircraft was on the ground. Airport operations at L.F. Wade International continued as normal throughout the brief visit.
