A new Customs Traveller Declaration has come into force for passengers arriving in Bermuda, changing the way visitors and returning residents report goods to border officials.

The updated declaration process is intended to streamline arrivals at the island's ports of entry, including the L.F. Wade International Airport, while strengthening the ability of Customs officers to track items being brought into the country. Travellers are expected to provide information on goods in their possession, including items that may be subject to duty or import restrictions.

Officials have encouraged passengers to familiarise themselves with the new requirements before travelling, noting that accurate declarations can help speed up processing times on arrival. Failure to properly declare goods can result in penalties, including fines or the seizure of undeclared items.

The change forms part of broader efforts to modernise Bermuda's border operations and improve the flow of passengers through the airport, particularly during the busy summer travel season. Customs officials say the updated system will also assist in collecting more reliable data on goods entering the island.

Travellers with questions about what must be declared are advised to consult the Bermuda Customs Department ahead of their journey.
