A debris field recovered off the coast of Nantucket has been identified as belonging to the medical evacuation aircraft that vanished early Saturday. The plane, operated by a Canadian company, carried four crew members and two passengers from Bermuda who were on their way to the United States for treatment.
Bermuda’s Department of Marine and Coast Guard officials confirmed the identities of the two Bermudian passengers. The National Institute for Health and the United States Coast Guard’s search teams worked in close coordination with Bermuda authorities to locate the wreckage, which was found in a shallow area south of the island.
The U.S. Coast Guard spokesperson stated that the debris field has been fully mapped and that investigations into the loss are underway. Bermuda’s Minister of Transportation and Public Works said the government would keep the public informed and would offer support to the families affected. The incident underscores the importance of international cooperation in search and rescue operations in the Atlantic.
Bermuda’s aviation safety regulators are reviewing the flight’s last known communications and the aircraft’s maintenance records. Meanwhile, the Bermuda Community is rallying around the families of the passengers, with memorial vigils planned in Hamilton to honour those lost in the tragedy.
