On Monday, 5 October, the Bermuda Stock Exchange (BSX) and the Bermuda Monetary Authority (BMA) opened the doors to World Investor Week 2026 by ringing the exchange’s opening bell at the North America Trade Center. The event, organised by the World Federation of Exchanges (WFE) in partnership with the International Organization for Securities Commissions, marked the start of a week‑long series of investor‑education activities aimed at boosting financial literacy among residents and visitors.
BMA spokesman Patrick R. Smith said the bell‑ring is a symbolic gesture to remind the community that the island’s capital markets are open to all and that a strong understanding of investment fundamentals is essential for sustaining Bermuda’s growing economy. "By ringing the bell we hope to inspire both seasoned investors and first‑time participants to explore the opportunities our markets offer," Smith added.
The ceremony attracted a mix of local traders, university students and small‑business owners. Several BSX listed companies also joined the ring, underscoring the exchange’s commitment to fostering a transparent and inclusive marketplace. Throughout the week, the BMA and BSX will host seminars, webinars and on‑site tours designed to demystify securities trading and highlight the regulatory safeguards that protect investors.
World Investor Week is a global initiative that encourages dialogue on best practices in financial regulation and investor education. For Bermudians, the event provides a timely reminder of the importance of informed investing and the role local institutions play in maintaining a robust, world‑class financial hub.
