Erica Hawley, the Hamilton‑based triathlete, will travel to Tongyeong, South Korea, for the World Triathlon Cup scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 24. The elite women’s race will feature 51 confirmed competitors, and Hawley’s appearance marks a key moment for Bermuda’s growing presence in international triathlon.
Hawley, who finished 17th in the elite women’s event at the recent World Triathlon Cup in Beijing, has been training in the island’s cooler evenings and on the The Water Park’s 1.5‑km swim course. Her preparation has included a blend of speed work on the island’s scenic bike paths and simulated race swims in the harbor. “I’ve been focused on building a strong endurance base and sharpening my transitions,” she said. “Competing in Tongyeong will give me the chance to test that preparation on a world‑class stage.”
The Bermuda Triathlon Association has welcomed Hawley’s participation, noting her role in inspiring a new generation of Bermudian athletes. “Erica’s commitment to the sport is a testament to the talent we have here,” said the Association’s president. The team will also provide logistical support during her stay, ensuring she has the resources needed for the demanding 2‑hour, 4‑minute race. Hawley’s journey reflects Bermuda’s expanding footprint in international sporting events and underscores the island’s dedication to supporting its athletes abroad.
