The Bermuda Basketball Association (BBA) announced today that it will restart its women’s basketball league, opening registration to female athletes from middle‑school age and up. The move aims to give women and girls a structured path to compete and develop on the island’s courts.
"We want to create an inclusive environment where every female player, whether she’s just picking up a ball or has years of experience, can find a place to play and grow," said a BBA representative. The new league will feature multiple divisions based on skill level, and teams will be formed through a simple online sign‑up, with a focus on community participation. The inaugural season is slated to begin in late July, and teams will compete in the island’s various school and community courts.
Local schools have welcomed the initiative, citing a need for more organized sports opportunities for girls and women. Mr. Michael Thompson, principal of St. George’s School, noted that the league could help retain students in school‑sport programs and foster teamwork skills.
Registrations close on August 15, and interested players can learn more by visiting the BBA website or contacting the association’s office at 441‑555‑1234. The BBA hopes the relaunch will spark broader interest in women’s basketball across Bermuda, building on the island’s growing sports culture.
