Eight riders from the Bermuda Cycling Federation took part in the Caribbean Championships held this week in Saint Lucia, marking Bermuda’s first full team appearance at the event since 2018. The competition, organised by the Caribbean Cycling Confederation, drew national teams from across the Lesser Antilles and featured road racing, time‑trial and mountain‑bike disciplines.

The squad, led by team manager Marcus Smith, included seasoned riders such as Sarah Jones, a former Commonwealth Games competitor, and newcomer Michael Brown, who won a national title last season. In the men's road race, Smith finished 12th overall, while Jones placed 7th in the women's category, both achieving personal bests. The mountain‑bike event saw Brown climb to a commendable 5th place among 24 competitors.

Bermuda officials praised the athletes’ preparation, noting that a new training program implemented by the federation last year helped the riders adapt to the tropical climate and varied terrain. The federation’s director, Lillian Clarke, said the experience will “provide invaluable exposure for our cyclists and strengthen our presence in international cycling.” The team plans to return to the Caribbean circuit next year with the goal of improving their standings and securing qualification for the upcoming Commonwealth Games.

The event underscores Bermuda’s growing investment in diverse sports, highlighting the island’s commitment to nurturing talent beyond its traditional sailing and cricket strongholds.
