Bermudian business partners, Thomas O’Brien of O’Brien & Co. and Michael Horan of Horan Investments, were honored at this month’s Caribbean Business Excellence Awards held in Montego Bay, Jamaica.

The pair received the Regional Innovation Award for their joint venture, a sustainable tourism platform that blends local hotel stays with eco‑guided excursions. The platform, launched in early 2024, has already attracted a growing number of visitors from the United Kingdom and the United States, and the award recognises the initiative’s potential to boost Bermuda’s island economy while maintaining environmental stewardship.

The ceremony, organised by the Caribbean Business Council, featured a panel of regional leaders who praised the duo’s commitment to community‑driven growth. The award is part of an annual competition that highlights small‑to‑medium enterprises across the Eastern Caribbean that demonstrate excellence in management, innovation and social impact.

While no formal statement was released by the Bermuda Government, the recognition is expected to strengthen ties between Bermuda and its regional peers, encouraging cross‑island collaboration and investment in emerging sectors such as green tourism and digital services. For O’Brien and Horan, the accolade underscores a broader trend of Bermudian firms gaining visibility beyond the island’s borders, positioning Bermuda as a dynamic hub for innovation in the Western Atlantic.
