Luscar Place in Hamilton celebrated its 20th anniversary on Tuesday, drawing a crowd of locals and visitors to a festive gathering that highlighted the centre’s role in the neighbourhood.

The event, organised by the Luscar Place Trust and supported by the Hamilton Town Council, featured a ribbon‑cutting ceremony, live music, and a series of short talks from longtime residents and local business owners. Mayor John MacIntyre opened the day with remarks on the importance of community hubs in fostering social cohesion and economic resilience.

Over the past two decades, Luscar Place has evolved from a modest community space into a vibrant venue hosting art exhibitions, educational workshops, and small‑scale markets. The Trust’s recent refurbishment added a flexible event room, upgraded kitchen facilities, and a new digital information kiosk, all aimed at expanding the centre’s outreach.

Attendees sampled local cuisine from pop‑up stalls, and a short film showcased the site’s history—from its original construction in 2003 to its current role as a gathering place for the Luscar neighbourhood.

"Luscar Place has become a cornerstone of our community," said resident and volunteer Maria Thompson. "It’s heartening to see it grow and continue to bring people together in such a welcoming environment."

The Luscar Place Trust will use the momentum from the celebration to launch a series of outreach programmes aimed at engaging younger residents and supporting local artists.
