In a move to enhance medical expertise on the island, the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute (BUEI) will serve as venue for a Continuing Medical Education (CME) session on sleep health and disorders. The event is scheduled for Monday, 12 October 2026, and will bring together doctors from across the archipelago and beyond.
The CME, presented by the U.S.‑based Mass General Brigham network, will cover assessment tools and management strategies for sleep disturbances in all age groups. Participants will learn about the latest diagnostic criteria, pharmacological and non‑pharmacological interventions, and how to integrate sleep medicine into routine clinical practice.
Dr. Lila Martin, a Bermuda‑based sleep specialist, said the conference will be an invaluable opportunity for local clinicians to stay abreast of international standards and to exchange best practices with peers. "Sleep disorders are increasingly recognised as a public health issue here, especially with Bermuda’s aging population and the impact of tourism on circadian rhythms," she noted.
The choice of BUEI as a venue underscores the island’s commitment to combining scientific education with its maritime heritage. The institute’s state‑of‑the‑art facilities will support interactive workshops and case‑study discussions.
The event is open to all registered medical professionals and will provide accredited CME credits. The BermudaObserver will follow up on the outcomes and potential implications for health policy on the island.
