The first day of the Caribbean Junior Golf Championship saw a remarkable performance from local boys at Ocean View Golf Course in Devonshire. Lewis MacFarlane, aged 12, dominated the 11‑13 division, building a 14‑stroke lead over his peers with a 74 that included three birdies and five bogeys. Meanwhile, Fletcher Logie, 13, topped the 14‑16 division, forging an 11‑stroke advantage early on.
Both players drew praise from their coaches, who highlighted their composure under pressure. “Seeing them maintain focus on the island’s challenging layout is a testament to their training,” said Coach Maria Gonzalez of St. Michael’s High School. “They’ve worked hard on their swing and mental game.”
The event, hosted by the International Sports Council, attracted 30 junior competitors from across the Caribbean. Ocean View’s links‑style course, known for its wind and undulating greens, offered a stern test for the young athletes.
With several more rounds to come, local supporters will be watching to see if MacFarlane and Logie can sustain their early advantage and potentially bring home a trophy for Bermuda.
