The PGA Tour has announced that its 2026 season will feature a marquee tournament in Bermuda, marking the first time the professional circuit will play on the island. The event, dubbed the "Bermuda International Open," will take place at the historic Port Royal Golf Course, a venue that has long been a favourite among local golfers and visitors.
The announcement comes as part of the tour’s broader push to expand into new markets and offer fans fresh playing experiences. While the tournament will run in late March, organisers say the timing will complement Bermuda’s spring tourism peak, providing a boost to hotels, restaurants and other local businesses.
Local officials welcome the move. "Hosting a PGA Tour event is a significant milestone for Bermuda," said Tourism Minister Dr. Angela Smith. "It showcases our island’s world‑class facilities and will attract international media coverage, which in turn will generate new visitors and investment opportunities for the local economy.
The event will feature a 54‑hole format over three days, with a purse of $4.5 million and a field comprised of the world’s top players. In addition to the competition, the PGA Tour will run a series of community outreach programmes, including golf clinics for Bermudian youth and partnerships with local charities.
While Bermuda will welcome the PGA Tour, the European Tour and LPGA have announced that their next season will be hosted in South Korea, a move that highlights the growing popularity of golf across the Asia‑Pacific region.
For residents, the Bermuda International Open promises not only high‑level sport but also an opportunity to showcase the island’s natural beauty, vibrant culture and warm hospitality to a global audience.
