Royal Caribbean International’s  Starlight  ship, scheduled to arrive in Hamilton on Monday, altered its itinerary and now sails directly to a Canadian destination, leaving passengers unable to disembark in Bermuda. The change, announced by the cruise operator a day in advance, has prompted disappointment among local tourism officials and eager visitors.

The Starlight was expected to call at Hamilton’s Harbour Island in the early afternoon before heading to the North Atlantic. Instead, the vessel diverted to Halifax, where it will anchor for the night. According to the port authority, the decision was made to accommodate a higher volume of passengers destined for Canada, and the ship’s schedule will be adjusted accordingly.

Local business owners, who rely on the influx of cruise tourists to boost sales of food, souvenirs and tours, have expressed concern. "We were ready to welcome a few hundred guests this week," said a Harbour Island shopkeeper. "Now those customers are simply sailing on.” The Bermuda Tourism Authority issued a statement noting that while the diversion is regrettable, the company will continue to work to preserve the island’s reputation as a desirable cruise stop.

Passengers who boarded the Starlight with the expectation of a Bermuda stop are advised to check the revised itinerary and follow the ship’s instructions. The port remains open for other cruise lines, and authorities are monitoring the situation to ensure a smooth transition for future itineraries.
