A collision between a delivery truck and a Department of Public Transportation bus on Somerset Road in Sandys County left eight passengers hurt, authorities confirmed on Thursday. The bus, which had stopped at a traffic signal, was struck from the rear by the truck, which was traveling in the opposite lane.

Police investigators are still gathering evidence, including traffic camera footage and eyewitness statements, to determine why the truck failed to stay in its lane. The injured passengers, ranging in age from 30 to 83, were taken to the Royal National Park Hospital for treatment. Eight individuals suffered varying degrees of injury, but all were reported to be in stable condition.

The Department of Public Transportation has issued a statement urging drivers to maintain safe distances and monitor road conditions, especially during peak traffic times. The incident has prompted a review of traffic safety protocols along Somerset Road, with officials promising a swift response to prevent future accidents.

Residents and commuters in the area are advised to exercise caution on the route, and local authorities are working to ensure that any necessary roadwork or signage is completed promptly.
