Bermuda’s health officials said on Thursday that they welcomed the recent recognition by Massachusetts General Hospital of progress in women’s healthcare, noting that the island’s own initiatives align with the celebrated milestones. The hospital’s event highlighted advances in maternal medicine, breast cancer screening, and reproductive health services, areas where Bermuda has also expanded resources over the past year.

According to the Bermuda Ministry of Health, a new community outreach program launched in March offers free mammography clinics to women over 40 in all parishes, while the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital has upgraded its obstetric units with modern monitoring equipment. Local advocacy groups, such as the Bermuda Women’s Health Alliance, reported a 12 percent increase in early‑stage breast cancer detections since the program began.

Mass General’s celebration, which included a panel of clinicians and patient advocates, underscored the importance of cross‑jurisdictional learning. Bermuda officials said they will continue to exchange data and best practices with the Boston institution, aiming to further reduce disparities in care for women across the island.
