A pair of Bermudian pickleball veterans—Susan Chiappa and Sarah Fox—took home three silver medals at the APP Columbus Open held in Ohio this past weekend. The two players advanced to the final of the women’s doubles 3.5 skill division, competing in the senior 65+ and 70+ age bracket, before falling just short of the gold.

In addition to the doubles silver, Chiappa also secured a second silver medal in the mixed‑partner event, showcasing the depth of talent within Bermuda’s senior pickleball ranks. The results add to a growing list of international achievements by Bermudian athletes in the sport, which has seen a surge in popularity on the island over recent years.

Local pickleball clubs have noted that the success of Chiappa and Fox provides a tangible example of the level of competition that Bermuda can reach. “It’s inspiring to see our own players perform so well abroad,” said a club representative.

The pair’s performance at the Columbus Open underscores the potential for Bermuda’s pickleball community to continue expanding its presence on the world stage, while also encouraging younger players to pursue the sport competitively.
