Bermudian field hockey player Lauren Cardwell was on the scoresheet on Sunday as the University of Toronto Varsity Blues rolled to a commanding 5-0 victory over the Western Mustangs at Back Campus Fields, capping off a perfect weekend for the Canadian university side.

The Blues had already put themselves in a strong position by half-time, building a 3-0 advantage through goals from Allie Lavis, Ava Airnes and Maddy Kim. Cardwell added her name to the scoresheet after the break, helping Toronto close out the emphatic win over the Mustangs.

The result followed a 3-0 triumph over Waterloo earlier in the weekend, giving the Varsity Blues back-to-back victories and a clean pair of performances on home turf. For Cardwell, the goal represents another encouraging step in her collegiate career in Ontario, where she has been representing Bermuda on the university field hockey stage.

The island has a growing presence of student-athletes competing at universities overseas, and Cardwell's contribution to Toronto's dominant weekend will be welcomed by supporters of Bermudian sport back home. The Varsity Blues will look to carry their momentum into their next fixtures in the university schedule.
