Bermuda's Minister of Tourism & Transport, Culture & Sport, Owen Darrell, is in Georgetown, Guyana this week to take part in the Caribbean Tourism Organization's State of the Tourism Industry Conference, known as SOTIC 2026. The event is being held from October 5 through October 9 and brings together tourism leaders and policymakers from across the region.

A Government spokesperson confirmed that Minister Darrell is representing the island at the annual gathering, which serves as a key forum for discussing the performance and future direction of Caribbean tourism. The conference typically addresses topics such as airlift, cruise business, sustainable tourism development, and marketing strategies in an increasingly competitive global travel market.

Bermuda's participation in the conference comes as the island continues efforts to strengthen its visitor economy and build partnerships with regional counterparts. Although Bermuda sits outside the Caribbean geographically, it maintains close ties with the CTO and regularly engages with regional tourism bodies on shared challenges, including connectivity and year-round visitation.

Minister Darrell is expected to return to Bermuda following the conclusion of the conference later this week.
