Bermuda's reinsurance sector has landed another significant transaction, with Prismic Life Holding Company, LP announcing a deal to reinsure roughly $5 billion of reserves from US insurance giant Prudential Financial, Inc.
The agreement covers US dollar-denominated Japanese whole life insurance policies recently originated by Prudential's Japanese affiliates. A spokesperson for the company confirmed the terms, noting that Prismic will take on the reserves backing the policies under the arrangement.
The transaction underscores Bermuda's continued prominence as a global hub for life reinsurance, particularly for large block deals involving international insurers seeking capital-efficient solutions. Prismic Life, which is backed by Warburg Pincus and Prudential itself, has been steadily building its portfolio since launching operations on the island, positioning Bermuda at the centre of the growing market for pension and life risk transfers.
Deals of this scale highlight the island's appeal to major financial institutions, supported by Bermuda's robust regulatory framework and deep pool of reinsurance expertise. The agreement is expected to further strengthen the island's reputation as a preferred domicile for complex cross-border reinsurance transactions involving Asian and North American markets.
