On a bright Sunday afternoon, the parish hall of Christ Church Devonshire was filled with a sea of pink, as hundreds of residents and friends assembled to honour the late Mrs. Else May Marie Phipps. The colour choice reflected the warmth and compassion that Mrs. Phipps brought to the community throughout her 75‑year life.

The gathering began with a simple prayer, followed by a series of short reflections from local clergy, neighbours and former colleagues. Many attendees wore pink top hats, scarves, or even simple pink accessories, symbolising unity and respect. A small parade of flowers from the church’s garden was laid at a bronze plaque bearing Mrs. Phipps’ name.

Mrs. Phipps was known for her volunteer work with the Bermuda Volunteer Fire Service and for organising annual fundraising events for the St. Thomas’ Children’s Clinic. The service also highlighted her role as a mentor to young Bermudian artists, encouraging them to pursue their creative passions.

The tribute concluded with a quiet moment of silence, followed by a community potluck that allowed guests to share memories and stories. The event underscored how Mrs. Phipps’ legacy remains woven into the fabric of Christ Church, reminding all that her spirit of generosity will continue to inspire future generations.

The church has asked families to send any additional photos or anecdotes to the parish office for inclusion in a commemorative booklet to be distributed at the next parish meeting.
