BermudaObserver reports that from 20 October the main access road to L.F. Wade International Airport will be closed for a week‑long maintenance project. The works will affect passenger pick‑ups and drop‑offs, bus routes and the short‑term parking lot that serves the airport.
Passengers will be directed to a temporary curbside zone located on Airport Road, just north of the terminal’s south entrance. The Bermuda Transport Department has posted signs and remote announcements to guide travelers. Bus 2 and 3, which normally run along the same corridor, will be rerouted via the Parrot Road–Elizabeth Street detour, extending travel time by roughly 10 minutes.
Short‑term parking, which usually accommodates up to 120 vehicles, will be closed during the construction period. Local taxi and car‑hire providers have been alerted and are offering discounted rates for airport shuttles during the week of work.
The Department of Tourism urges visitors to plan ahead, especially those arriving for the upcoming summer season. "We understand the inconvenience," said Transport Minister Cliff Hurd. "But these upgrades will improve safety and capacity for the long term, helping Bermuda keep up with growing tourism demand."
Residents and commuters are encouraged to use the new bus routes or consider car‑pooling to reduce congestion. The Department will monitor traffic flow and update the public via the official website and social media channels.
