Bermuda College in Hamilton has secured accreditation for its newly launched social work curriculum, marking the third such achievement in the past five years. The certification, granted by the Bermuda Accreditation Board, confirms that the program meets rigorous national and international standards for faculty qualifications, curriculum design, and student support services.

During a modest ceremony held on campus, college president Dr. Lillian Harper thanked the Board’s review team and highlighted the college’s commitment to continuous improvement. "This accreditation reflects the hard work of our faculty, staff and students," she said. "It also enhances our graduates’ employability across the Caribbean and beyond, as employers increasingly seek certified professionals in social work.

The accreditation process required a comprehensive audit of course offerings, assessment methods and resource availability, including field placement opportunities with local community agencies. The college’s dean of social work, Ms. Elaine Thompson, noted that the review helped identify areas for expansion, such as a practicum component focused on mental health.

Students and parents welcome the development, noting that the certification may qualify graduates for certain scholarships and streamline transfer options to universities in the United States and the United Kingdom. The college plans to apply for accreditation of its other emerging programs in the coming year, continuing its reputation as a leading provider of higher education in Bermuda.
