The Bermuda Health Council has concluded its targeted consultation on a proposed Advance Review and Approval Framework, a mechanism intended to govern significant changes to the island's healthcare system before they are implemented.

According to the Council, the consultation drew a strong positive response, with 91 per cent of participants indicating they supported or strongly supported the proposed approach. The feedback exercise was carried out in support of the Ministry of Health as part of broader efforts to strengthen oversight of major healthcare decisions affecting Bermuda residents.

The proposed framework would require substantial changes to the healthcare system to undergo advance review and approval, giving regulators an opportunity to assess potential impacts on cost, quality and access to care before changes take effect. Supporters of the model say it would bring greater transparency and accountability to decisions that shape the delivery of health services on the island.

The Council indicated that the input gathered during the consultation will help inform the next stages of the framework's development. Further details on how and when the new process will be introduced are expected to be announced by the Ministry of Health in due course.
