Fidelis Partnership, a Bermuda‑based cyber‑risk insurer, announced on Tuesday the appointment of John A. Smith as its new Chief Executive Officer for Bermuda operations, effective July 1, 2024. Smith, a native of St. George’s who has spent the past decade in senior roles across the island’s financial services sector, brings a blend of local insight and international experience. Prior to joining Fidelis, he served as Vice‑President of Risk Management at GlobalInsurance Group, where he led the company’s expansion into the Caribbean market.

In a statement, Fidelis CEO David R. Brown welcomed Smith to the team, noting that the company’s “strong track record of partnership with local regulators and a commitment to nurturing Bermudian talent make this a natural fit.” Brown added that Smith’s appointment follows a strategic review aimed at sustaining the firm’s rapid growth and reinforcing its reputation as a trusted partner for insurers worldwide.

Bermuda’s government welcomed the appointment, with Minister of Finance Trevor Williams remarking that “the continued presence of leading global insurers on the island is vital for the diversity and resilience of our economy.” Smith said he is eager to “build on Fidelis’ legacy of innovation while supporting the community that has given him so much.”

The move is expected to strengthen Fidelis’ position in the region’s burgeoning cyber‑risk market and further cement Bermuda’s status as a premier destination for insurance and reinsurance businesses.
