The Government of Bermuda has formally established a Cybersecurity Council, a dedicated body that will focus on protecting the island’s digital infrastructure and enhancing cyber resilience across all sectors.
The council, chaired by a senior member of the Ministry of Technology, will bring together government officials, industry experts, academic scholars and community representatives. Its mandate is to advise on cyber‑risk management, coordinate incident response, and promote best practices for businesses and public entities.
"With the rapid growth of digital services and the increasing sophistication of cyber‑threats, Bermuda needs a unified strategy to defend our economy and residents," said the Minister of Technology during the launch ceremony. The council is expected to produce a national cyber‑security framework, support local startups in developing secure technology, and collaborate with international partners to share threat intelligence.
The initiative comes at a time when the tourism sector, a key pillar of the economy, is heavily reliant on online booking platforms and customer data. By strengthening cyber defences, the council aims to maintain consumer confidence and safeguard Bermuda’s reputation as a safe, technologically advanced destination.
The council will convene quarterly and is open to input from the wider community through public consultations.
