The Bermuda Police Service has paid tribute to the first Bermudian woman to serve as a police officer, recognising a milestone figure in the island's law enforcement history.

The honour acknowledges the pioneering role she played at a time when policing in Bermuda was overwhelmingly a male profession, and when opportunities for local women in uniformed service were extremely limited. Her entry into the ranks helped pave the way for the generations of Bermudian women who have since built careers across every level of the service.

Representatives of the BPS said the recognition reflects the service's ongoing commitment to acknowledging those who broke barriers and shaped the modern police force. Today, women serve throughout the organisation, from frontline patrol duties to senior leadership positions, a legacy that can be traced back to the courage of its earliest female recruits.

The tribute forms part of broader efforts by the service to celebrate its heritage and the contributions of Bermudians who helped transform policing on the island into a more diverse and representative institution.
