The LPG tanker M/V Libramont, bound from Norway to Texas, changed course and entered Bermudian waters after a crew member sustained a severe hand injury. At 9:20 p.m. on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, the Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre (BMOC) received a satellite telephone call reporting the incident. The vessel, carrying liquefied petroleum gas, was rerouted to the nearest port for medical assistance.
The injured 54‑year‑old Ukrainian crewmember was transported by the BMOC’s rapid response team to the Royal Naval Dockyard’s medical facility, where he received emergency treatment for the hand wound. Local medical staff confirmed that the injury could be managed on the island, averting the need for a longer voyage to mainland facilities.
BMOC officials said the diversion was conducted in accordance with international maritime safety protocols, prioritising the crew’s well‑being and maintaining the vessel’s integrity. The tanker’s captain, after brief consultations with HM‑Bermuda maritime authorities, chose Bermuda as the most expedient option.
The incident highlights the role of the BMOC in safeguarding both maritime traffic and the health of seafarers off Bermuda’s coast. The centre remains on alert for further support requests and will coordinate with the vessel’s management to ensure safe completion of the voyage.
"Our priority is always the safety of personnel and the integrity of the marine environment," a BMOC spokesperson said.
