The Minister of Economy and Labour, Jason Hayward, convened an afternoon press briefing in Hamilton today to outline the forthcoming 2026 Bermuda Job Market Employment Briefs. The briefing, streamed live for residents and business leaders, emphasized the island’s strategic focus on harnessing local talent to meet growing industry demands.
Hayward outlined the key metrics that will shape the 2026 brief, including projected employment growth in the tourism, maritime, and technology sectors. He highlighted the importance of upskilling initiatives, noting that the government will partner with local colleges and private firms to expand apprenticeship programmes and digital literacy courses.
The minister also addressed the impact of the 2025 Labour Force Survey, which revealed a tightening labour market and an uptick in skilled vacancies. He urged employers to consider flexible work arrangements and to align recruitment strategies with the evolving skill set of Bermudian workers.
By providing a transparent roadmap for the 2026 brief, Hayward aims to give businesses early insight into labour supply trends, enabling them to plan recruitment, investment, and training more effectively. The Ministry will release a detailed report in early 2024, followed by quarterly updates to keep stakeholders informed.
