In a showcase of Bermudian nautical skill, Christian Ebbin, a seasoned sailor from Hamilton, helped Tulane University claim third place in the 2026 Captain Hurst Trophy, a prestigious intercollegiate regatta in New Hampshire.
The Dartmouth‑hosted event, held on 17 and 18 October, featured 18 teams competing in two divisions. Each team raced ten times on the first day, but the second day saw no races due to weather conditions. Tulane finished with 134 points, trailing only the top two teams.
Ebbin, who grew up on Bermuda’s waters and trained at the Bermuda Yacht Club, brought a blend of tactical acumen and local seamanship to the American fleet. His performance, noted for consistent finishes and strategic use of wind shifts, proved instrumental in the team’s overall standing.
The result is a source of pride for the Bermudian sailing community, which has long been represented in North American collegiate competitions. Local sailing clubs celebrated the achievement, citing it as evidence of the high calibre of Bermudian sailors.
BermudaObserver will continue to follow the progress of Ebbin and the broader impact of Bermudian talent on international sailing circuits.
